Thuyen Vien Vegetarian Restaurant in the shadows of the Magic Kingdom
If you’re paying the big bucks to visit Disneyland or California Adventure, you’ll probably want to maximize your day by eating at one of the parks. Maybe you’ll walk out to Downtown Disney. But if you have something to do at the Anaheim Convention Center or are seeing a band play at the House of Blues, you can and should do better than all the gimmicky chain restaurants with chicken nuggets, quesadillas, and other stuff for picky kids.
Right in the shadow of the Matterhorn sits Thuyen Vien, a hardcore vegetarian Vietnamese place with clean, humble decor and a kickass menu with pho, bun, rice dishes, and more. We started with the Banana Flower Tacos, with tempura you-know-what piled on cabbage on a rice cracker drizzled with a cool dressing. Refreshing!
The Garlic Chicken was really tasty, with mock meat that’s crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside loaded with a ton of flavor on top of the extra springy bun. The Royal Noodle Soup had high-end veggie beef and fresh tofu, and the spice level made me as sweaty as broth made me happy.
For 30 minutes, this was the other happiest place on earth.
